Chicago Bullseye 419 – Interview with KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune

See Red Fred @cbefred interviews the inimitable KC Johnson @kcjhoop of the Chicago Tribune. The Hemingway of Bulls Beat Writers addresses a variety of topics and questions:

1:30 I thought the handling of Parker during Boylen’s first month was catastrophic for the Bulls. Was Boylen or the Front office the impetus behind that decision?
4:30 What did more damage to the reputation of the Bulls org: The handling of Parker or Boylen’s first week (wind sprints, near mutiny, practice after the Boston loss)?
8:40 What was your reaction to the Otto Porter trade? What has impressed you the most about Otto Porter Jr?
11:45 Is Dunn done? I hear whispers there are off court issues. I think it’s highly suspicious that he had a migraine after the Boston game when he spent the 4th quarter glued to the bench. I feel the Bulls must sign a FA Point guard in the offseason (Rubio-Beverley-Collison) a. Do you feel it’s more likely the trade him, or sign a FA to challenge him? b. What FA Point guards do you like?
18:50 There is a palpable anger with the fan base. Is the anger within the fanbase at the highest level you’ve seen in the years since you’ve been covering the team?
26:00 Should the Bulls Buyout Lopez
29:00 Most Underrated Bull for KC Johnson in the Jordan Era

5:00 Is Kris Dunn Done?
9:55 Bring Derrick Rose Back
12:45 The Face of the Team
14:00 What do you feel is more likely…Lauri becoming a top-10 player, or the Bulls wining the 10-14% Zion lottery, and he then will become a top-10 player?
17:50 Do we have the Eastern Conference Contender Core here already?
21:00 The Prophetic Visions of See Red Fred

Bulls vs Memphis Grizzlies Post-Game
The Bulls WON 122-110 with the return of Joakim Noah and Justin Holiday. It was really great to see Joakim back to playing in the UC again. Even Benny The Bull had a little fun with Jo during the player introductions. The crowd stood up for him when he entered the game mid-way through the 1st Quarter. You can really tell that he loves Chicago and he appreciates all the time he spent here.
In terms of the game, Robin Lopez started the game off strong, with 12 points in the first quarter and ending up with a Season High 25 points and Otto Porter Jr had a CAREER HIGH with 37 points on 16/20 shooting,10 rebounds and really helped to control the flow of the offense. Lauri chipped in 21 points and 10 rebounds.
As predicted last week, Rawle Alkins has joined the Bulls again and played tonight in Garbage time in the 4th quarter. He will be interesting to watch as the season winds down. The guy is a dunking beast and it will be great to see just one jam from Rawle before the season ends.

Bulls Trade Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker to Washington for Otto Porter Jr.
The Washington Wizards are sending Otto Porter to the Chicago Bulls for Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker.
Bobby Portis was very emotional after the trade news, leaving the UC visibly affected by the news. Just last show we talked about Bobby wanting to be a Bull for life.
Jabari Parker was surprised the Bulls moved Bobby Portis: “Bobby is the leader, the captain of our team, and just a guy that they loved. For him to get moved is obviously bitter. But hey, that’s just how it goes.’’
Jabari said he was going to get his last Chicago meal at Harold’s on 87th before heading to DC.
Marcus: If it’s me, I go to Lem’s Ribs, but Harold’s is good. One of these days I’ll share my meeting Michael Jordan story in the parking lot at Carson’s Ribs in Deerfield at Midnight the night of a huge win back in 1996.
Otto Porter Jr. Stats: https://www.foxsports.com/nba/otto-porter-jr-player-stats
In terms of Porter Jr, the 25-year-old has a chance to start fresh in a new location where he can take advantage of his natural talents. Despite modest scoring numbers, the forward can be an impact player while filling up the stat sheet in a number of ways.
He can rebound, defend and make open shots, knocking down 44.1 percent from three-point range in 2017-18.
The player’s all-around contributions helped him lead the Wizards and rank 26th in the league with 8.1 win shares last season, per Basketball Reference. His 9.4 win shares in 2016-17 was good for 21st in the NBA.
The 2013 No. 3 overall draft pick has continued to improve his all-around game and maintains his All-Star potential as he starts the next stage of his career for the …
